Why The Name Sundog?
A sundog, also known as a mock sun or a parhelion, is a bright, colorful atmospheric phenomenon that appears on either side of the sun, often in a hazy sky. It looks like a small, bright spot or halo, sometimes with a tail or streak extending away from the sun. Sundogs are caused by the reflection, refraction, and dispersion of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere, and they are most commonly seen in polar regions during cold weather conditions.
In some cultures, sundogs are seen as a positive or even magical occurrence, bringing good luck to those who see them.
We see sundogs as a metaphor for those who are seeking adventure, exploring the outdoors and enjoying all the magic of nature. Our hope is that while you’re here at Sundog Condo, you’re outside experiencing Grand County and reconnecting with nature, making memories with your fellow travelers, all while having a cozy, warm home base to come back to at the end of the day.
